A.M. Rizzo Electrical Contractors installed a horizontal steel truss across the Metro North/Amtrak lines in East Norwalk Friday night. The exact location is referred to as site 5, Substation 537 at Moore Place.
The work is part of an extensive project to install five wayside substations along the New Haven Line to control the flow of electricity. The steel truss spans the railroad tracks and carries the catenary conductors (hanging wires) that trains draw power from as they run along the tracks. The state Department of Transportation’s Department of Rails is in charge of the project.
The work started at about 10 p.m. and ended by 6 a.m. The schedule was designed for convenience for commuters. About a dozen A.M. Rizzo workers were required to perform the task.
